Don Luchi Prosecco to Host Launch and Tasting on June 30

[Charleston, SC – June 24, 2024] In celebration of National Prosecco Week, Charleston native and serial entrepreneur Justin “Luchi” Wages, alongside co-founders David Kinloch and Andre Grundy, will host a launch and tasting of the new Don Luchi Prosecco on Sunday, June 30, at Lamar’s Sporting Club. Wine enthusiasts are cordially invited to what the trio calls “an ode to life’s finest pleasures and Black Excellence.”

In 2023, Wages embarked on a journey to elevate the art of celebration and traveled to Italy to source and craft what would be debuted in Charleston as the Don Luchi Prosecco, a profile Black-owned brand. Officially known as Don Luchi Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G., this sparkling wine boasts vibrant effervescence and a distinctive flavor profile derived from the unique acidity of the Glera grape.

“Don Luchi represents a changing landscape in the wine industry. I am proud to see local friends in Charleston, South Carolina, add to the conversation about what it looks like to own a wine brand,” said Femi Oyediran, sommelier and co-owner of Graft Wine Shop. “This is truly a moment worth celebrating—and luckily, we can pop bottles of Don Luchi to do just that.” 

Don Luchi is one of fewer than ten minority-owned Prosecco brands in the country and bears a D.O.C.G. designation that ranks it among the highest quality of Italian wines. “Our journey to bring Don Luchi Prosecco here to Charleston is fueled by our passion for excellence and a desire to offer something truly special to our hometown’s vibrant food and beverage landscape,” Wages added. 

Ideal pairings for Don Luchi include delicate first and second courses, mildly spicy dishes, and the tangy creaminess of soft cheeses such as triple cream Camembert. The light-bodied Prosecco also pairs exceptionally well with Gullah Geechee-inspired dishes and Lowcountry specialties such as shrimp and grits, fried whiting with red rice, or a classic seafood boil.

The celebratory launch and tasting will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Lamar’s Sporting Club is located at 570 King Street, in Downtown Charleston.
