[North Charleston, SC—May 15] Cooler Cushions, in partnership with Board Spaces Custom Cornhole, will host the Battle of the Palmetto Cornhole Tournament. On Saturday, May 30, up to thirty teams will compete for cash prizes and bragging rights. This tournament will take place at DIG in the Park from 4 pm to 8 pm; check-in and late registration will begin at 3 pm.
Battle of the Palmetto will be Cooler Cushions first corporate event and fundraiser. “We’re a family owned company that specializes in customized cushions for ice chests and coolers,” says Justin Wages, Co-Founder/Owner, of Cooler Cushions. He and his brother Ashton, share an extensive background in marine upholstery, which inspired them to create this very unique product. “Our cushions are made with three inches of thick foam and a mesh underlay…it’s similar to the vinyl used in boats. But, this provides a comfortable and extra seat for any outdoor event or activity.”
Cooler Cushions can come in handy while tailgating, spending a day at the beach, hunting, fishing, or playing cornhole at the tournament. The Wages brothers are both advanced cornhole players; but neither could come to terms of agreement on who was better—sibling rivalry at its best. Although a friendly competition amongst the brother would be entertaining, Justin and Ashton have opened this event to the public, and will allow Board Spaces to run the tournament.
“I’m very excited about the tournament and to partner with Board Spaces,” Ashton added. “Corn hole is a professional sport. So it was only right to call on the pros.”
Battle of the Palmetto will be led by Certified Directors of the Cornhole Players Association (CPA). This will be a double elimination tournament with a NCAA style bracket of the registered teams. The official rules can be found at http://battleofthepalmetto.com/official-rules
Registration is $50. This fee includes tournament entry for two players, a customized team name, t-shirts, and a chance to compete for:
- 1st Place – $700, a set cornhole boards and game day prizes
- 2nd Place- $200 and game day prizes
- 3rd Place- Game day prizes
The game day prizes and raffle items are courtesy of the Battle of the Palmetto Corporate Sponsors and In-Kind Donors.

This is a public event for individuals 18 and older. DIG in the Park is located in North Charleston’s Park Circle neighborhood at 1049 E. Montague Avenue.
“We would really love for the residences and local businesses of Park Circle to join us,” Justin adds. “We are looking forward to a day of fun as we also give back to the community.”A portion of the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to H1GHER LEARNING and The Low Country Orphan Relief. Cooler Cushions nominated these nonprofit organizations last year to be the Battle of the Palmetto Cornhole Tournament 2015 Beneficiaries.
