New Craft Beer Packed with Flavor & Inclusivity

[Charleston, SC] The low-country will get its first taste of Tha CommUNITY Beer on Friday, October 1. The craft beer will be released as part of a multi-brew initiative led by The Traveling Hoptista & The Dropping Pin in partnership with Holy City Brewing in North Charleston.

“We created this initiative to bring more people of color into the taproom,” said April Dove, of Goose Creek, SC, also known as the “The Traveling Hoptista.” As a graduate of the American Brewers Guild and a homebrewer, Dove wanted to create a beer that was packed with both ‘flavor and inclusivity’. The end results would become an American Lager locally crafted and brewed by a black woman.

“Tha CommUNITY offers a crisp and clean taste of local ingredients with a nostalgia feel,” she added. “It’s a bold tasting beer that will become the catalyst to a more diverse and colorful customer experience throughout the local taprooms.”

To ensure this, David White Jr., of The Dropping Pin, has joined the initiative as a Brewery & Community Liaison. “It’s an honor to be a part of a movement, as such in Charleston. The brewery scene here has grown tremendously in the last few years, and we’d like everyone to know that ‘we’ too enjoy craft beer,” White shared.

As the faces of Tha CommUNITY, he and Dove hope to encourage more breweries to join the initiative alongside Holy City Brewing. The support of the North Charleston brewery has allowed for their craft beer to be brewed, canned, distributed, and sold in-house. “Holy City Brewing has always strived to be a part of our local community,” said Chris Brown, Owner/ Production Manager. “When April approached us about Tha Community Beer we were excited to be involved in a project that would reach out to our community and hopefully bring more inclusivity to our tap room. We’re looking forward to drinking a few pints with our neighbors.”

To celebrate, a release party will be held from 7pm-10pm; This will be a free event for attendees 21 and older. Tha CommUNITY Beer will be available as tap, 16 oz can, or 4-pack 16 oz can (available to-go only)

Holy City Brewing is located at 1021 Aragon Avenue in North Charleston.
