[Greenville, SC—June 5]Hip Hop Artist, Benjamin Starr, will release a new album on Juneteenth. The album, titled Free Lunch, will be a digital collection of 15 songs, and two interludes rooted in self-love and awareness for Black Youth.
“It was probably destined, and likely important, for me to release the project on Juneteenth,” the 27-year-old emcee expressed. “This is a significant part of Black History that is not taught in schools…as it relates to our fight for freedom in this day and age.”
Since the beginning of his hip hop career, Starr has examined the trials, tribulations, and endless journeys of both Black men and women. Free Lunch will be no exception to his artistic ability to lyrically paint these pictures.
“The evolution of ‘Free Lunch’ was one to behold,” Starr’s manager, Troy Richardson, quoted. “This album is a diary of our frustrations, fears, love and overall empathy for the Black communities and youth. ‘Free Lunch’ is emphatic. ‘Free Lunch’ is embracing. Free Lunch’ shows our struggle.”
Some of what Richardson addresses is evident throughout “Seventh” the first single off the album. Produced by Danny Dee, this song is inspired by SC High School Basketball star Seventh Woods; and the struggles of young Black men, who are fighting through adversity to find success.
Free Lunch is best described as “unapologetically Black, but a true work of art released on the Gold Touch/ Higher Level Entertainment imprint. With the help of his creative team and a talented group of producers, Free Lunch will feed the mind, ears and souls of avid hip hop listeners. “There is another awakening going on within the Black community,” Starr adds. “And, this album articulates shared experiences of mine, and my community.”
Starr shares the inspiration, as well as the impact the album has made on his life, in a fan letter on BennyStarr.com. On June 19, Free Lunchwill be available for purchase on iTunes, Bandcamp and his website. For more information, email trichardsonhle@gmail.com.
